Deceased Name: TED ''BABE'' WIDDES

Ted ''Babe'' Widdes, 79, died Thursday, Oct. 2, 1997.

Ted was born in Duluth and graduated from Central High School in 1936. From 1924-1939 the Widdes family, including his father, M.J., and his brother, Getchell, farmed the Hartley Estates as an agricultural entity. They were the last family to do so. For 35 years, Mr. Widdes owned and operated Widdes Feed and Implement in Hinckley, Minn. He also ran a dairy cattle business in Hinckley. Both businesses were started when he was 17.

He was an active member of the Hinckley Business Community and served on the Village Council. He had an active membership in the Hinckley Chamber of Commerce since its inception. He also belonged to the Hinckley Masonic Temple since 1957. In 1971, he was honored for his contributions to the Hinckley community. In 1956, Mr. Widdes moved his family to Duluth while retaining his ties to the Hinckley community.

Mr. Widdes served in the United States Army Air Corps from June 1942 through November 1945. He received an honorable discharge from the service. He was active in the American Legion since 1945. He was a lifelong member of Adas Israel Congregation, serving as an officer for many years.

His beloved wife, Fay, died in January 1987.

He is survived by his daughters, Diana W. (Michael G.) Regner of San Francisco; and Janet W. Morrison of Columbia, Md.; a son, Steven A. (Tal B.) of Potomac, Md.; sisters, Ossie Perlman and Elsie Kane, both of St. Paul, Minn.; a brother, Getchell (Helen) of Duluth and five grandchildren.

He was a beloved husband, father, brother, uncle, grandfather and friend.

Service: 3 p.m. Sunday in Adas Israel Syagogue, 302 E. Third St. Burial in Adas Isreal Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Widdes Family Scholarship fund, c/o Hinckley-Finlayson Public Schools, P.O. Box 308, Hinckley, MN, 55037; or the National Hospice Organization, 1901 North Moore St., Suite 901, Arlington, VA, 22209.
